TREE PLANTING SUBSIDY PROGRAM

Trees Ontario provides subsidies to local planting agencies across the province for native tree seedlings. The local planting agencies work directly with landowners to determine site eligibility, allocate the funds and coordinate the planting. Since the full cost of the seedlings is offset by the Trees Ontario subsidy and planting services are often provided by the local planting agencies, hundreds of thousands of trees can be planted each year at a reasonable cost to the landowner.

Some planting agencies require you to plant a minimum number of trees within a minimum land area. Site eligibility may include a focus on specific features such as shoreline buffers and marginal or idle pasture land. The cost per seedling and tree species selection varies in each area.

Many of our local Conservation Authorities or Stewardship Councils act as planting agencies and your local Stewardship Coordinator will be able to put you in touch with the coordinator of the subsidized tree planting program in your area. The Trees Ontario website also provides a full list of local planting agencies. For more information or professional advice about tree planting on your property you can complete an electronic application and you will receive a response from your local planting agency or from a Trees Ontario representative.
