Environmental Farm Plan

The objective of the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) is to encourage producers to farm in a way that is environmentally responsible as well as economically viable. An EFP helps farmers determine the effect of their farming practices on the environment through self-assessment and peer review. After attending a free EFP workshop, you will be able to identify any environmental risks on your property and develop an action plan. Once completed, the plan is submitted through your local representative for a review by locally-appointed farmers. Once approved through the peer review, you can apply for a cost-share opportunity administered through the Canada-Ontario Farm Stewardship Program (COFSP) and be reimbursed for a portion of the costs of implementing your plan. The Ontario Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) can provide technical assistance if needed. For more information about eligibility requirements and the application process, you can download the COFSP Brochure. Additional details about the EFP are available on the OMAFRA website.

This program is administered by the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association where you can learn about a variety of programs for farmers. For more information and to find out about EFP workshops in your area, contact your local OSCIA Program Representative.
